Gudri Bedsheet

Gudri Bedsheet, also known as Kantha Bedsheet, is a type of traditional Indian handcrafted bedspread. It is made by stitching together multiple layers of old sarees, dhotis, or other discarded fabrics using a simple running stitch called Kantha stitch. Originating from the eastern regions of India, particularly West Bengal, Gudri Bedsheets have a rich cultural and historical significance. In the past, they were made by rural women as a way to recycle old clothes and create functional and decorative pieces for the household. The process of making a Gudri Bedsheet involves first collecting old, worn-out clothes or fabrics that are no longer in use. These fabrics are then washed, dried, and sorted according to color and design. The layers of fabrics are then stacked together and secured with small stitches along the edges. The stitching is done in a way that creates a quilt-like pattern on the surface of the bedsheet.
