Inayat

Khan Inayat Khan (1882-1927) was an Indian musician, spiritual teacher, and founder of the Sufi Order in the West. He was born into a musical family in Baroda, India, and was trained in classical music and singing from a young age. He was also deeply influenced by the teachings of his father, a Sufi master, and by the spiritual traditions of Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism. At the age of 20, Inayat Khan began a career as a professional musician, performing across India and gaining recognition as a skilled vocalist and veena player. However, he also felt a strong calling to share the spiritual message of Sufism with the world. In 1910, he left India and traveled to the West, delivering lectures and concerts on Sufism in the United States and Europe.
