Multi colour pure handloom mulmul sarees originated from Bengal, a state in eastern India known for its rich culture and traditional handicrafts. Mulmul, also known as muslin, is a lightweight and soft cotton fabric that is popularly used for making sarees in Bengal. The process of making these sarees is entirely done by hand, from spinning the cotton to weaving the fabric. The yarn used is of the finest quality, and the weaving techniques are passed down through generations, making these sarees a true work of art. The vibrant and multi-coloured designs on these sarees are achieved through a process called tie-dyeing. The fabric is first folded and then tied with threads in various patterns. The tied areas resist the dye, resulting in beautiful patterns and designs when the fabric is dyed. This traditional technique is known as bandhani or bandhej in Bengali and is also used in other parts of India.
