Description
Pure cotton Assamese Mekhela Sador is a traditional attire worn by women in the state of Assam, India. It consists of two pieces of cloth, the Mekhela and the Sador, which are draped around the body to create a graceful and elegant look.
The Mekhela is the lower garment, which is worn like a skirt. It is made from a single piece of cloth, usually around 2. 5 to 3 meters long, and is worn around the waist with pleats tucked in at the front. The back is usually left plain, but some modern variations have a decorative border or embroidery on the back as well. The Mekhela is usually made of pure cotton fabric, which is soft, breathable, and perfect for the hot and humid climate of Assam.
The Sador is the upper garment, which is worn like a shawl. It is made from a long piece of cloth, usually around 4.
